New York's Lower East Side Howl Festival saluted Tuli Kupferberg with an explosively colorful 12 foot mural on vinyl by cartoon artist Jeffrey Lewis. Tuli would have loved it , rising from a tenament to loom large over his East 10th Street block. The "seize the day' quote is from "Carpe Diem" another Tuli classic on the Fugs First Album."Howl," of course, by Allen Ginsberg is the poem that started it all off. "I Saw the Best Minds of My Generation Rot" is the Fugs musical version of it from the ESP-disk "Virgin Fugs." The lead voice is Ed Sanders, Tuli adds some spoken words as well. Close up photos by Norman Savitt. Thanks to Jeffrey for having Tuli wink at us like he did in his magic 87th birthday photo which I post here at the end.
