Les armées prussienne et française s'affrontent depuis des heures sans que l'une prenne véritablement le dessus sur l'autre.
Mais une partie de l'armée française (grenadiers, voltigeurs, cuirassiers à cheval et lanciers à cheval polonais) par une marche forcée et dissimulée à travers la forêt a réussi à se positionner à l'abri de bâtiments sur le flan gauche de l'infanterie et de l'artillerie prussienne.
Elle s'apprête à attaquer par surprise.
Le sort de la bataille va se jouer maintenant.
