A few people have been wondering about the status of some of my current projects - the reason I've not been updating my 2.5D engine is that I'm currently comissioned to work as programmer on an unpcoming XBox Indie Arcade game, in particular creating all the awesome graphics and special effects.

So I'm glad to finally be able to present our first proper (somewhat cheesy) trailer for Alpha Squad, which should come out this autumn. It's a story-driven dual-stick shooter that parodies old action films and arcade games, based on the cult hit Smash-TV.

There's a brief Beta-version PC demo out at:
http://www.indiepubgames.com/game/Alpha_Squad
Which I recommend trying out - and vote for us!

It's even up on GameTrailers.com:

  • Whoa, what are the odds?

I was just looking at that game the other day. I had no idea I was subscribing to someone on it's dev-team.

This isn't using the same engine you were showcasing earlier, is it? I can't really tell from just those clips, but I had thought this was a fully 3D engine.

  • @marscaleb No, this is a new engine - the 2.5D one I was (and still am) working on wasn't very suitable due to the assets' illustrative art-style. This one's almost entirely 2D in fact and in principle a bit simpler than my original, but it's much more interesting in terms of lighting effects.

  • please finish Balder's gate 2....

  • i like trains ._.

  • @XxArkhamxAsylumxX Easy. Involve an Artist during the brainstorming phase. Unless you've got money to pay for their work, most people like to give their creative input to the game mechanics design (Yes, even the Sound guys).

You could always attend game jams to find like minded people, and slowly gather a interdisciplinary team.

  • Looks very nice, but how did you get House to do the voice?

  • if you are the graphic programmer of that project, then cheers for you! its the best part!

any reading suggestion to do something like that without tons of math theory? (most hlsl books are for 3d, and you know all the 3d hassles..)

  • Dude did u really make this with xna? O.o

  • Like it all except that it negatively portrays a one world government.

  • Looks like Alien Swarm to be honest.

  • you have just inspired me to continue my work on assembling my own development team for an indie game. In my opinion the hardest part for me i finding an artist

  • hey dude, wow. I love the scenes and art style. especially @0:29.

    looks great
