Cool that she's into Tom Waits. And while I love Mule Variations as well...really, I don't know how it comes close to being his best record in anybody's book, least of all a professional singer-songwriter.
Bone machine? The Black Rider? Man, once he hit on the Harry Smith/Beefheart thing, the guy (and his wife/collaborator) went into the stratosphere as a creative force.
They'd be an interesting collaboration.
