This is a clip of Mark Wood, famous electric string player for Trans Siberian Orchestra, soloing and then performing Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze with the Honors Strings of Etowah Youth Orchestra of Gadsden, AL. Needless to say, strings can and do rock, and Mark Wood is a testament to that!

  • Mark came to my city yesterday to play with some local school strings players, and he blew our heads off... it was such an amazing performance, and he promoted musical education too.

When he was finished, everyone was so amazed, we started applauding and chanting "one more song" so he came back out and basically played this for us. He did Iron Man, Smoke on the Water, Halloween, and tons of other awesome songs.

This video is what made me want to go see him, and I'll never forget it.

  • He is awesome isn't he, and also really down to earth. Glad this video could inspire you to go see him live! Spread the word!

  • You can order a violin with or without frets. I'm sure he's got them all... And he does rock on acoustic violins too. Thank God for musicians pushing the envelope though!

  • Then do it and post a video, you fucking noob.

  • Yes. Mark is a HUGE Hendrix/Halen fan

  • no i have an average violin and it cost 100.

  • actually an average acousitic violin is a student violin which will run you anywhere from a couple hundred if you aren't too picky to anywhere from $700 and up if you are. If you want a concert violin, well now you are looking at $2000 plus

  • did he played some eruption there?
