I live in the suburb of Caversham, Dunedin, New Zealand and just down the road from my house is a small pocket of bush which is inhabited by a very rare species of 'Velvet Worm', knowns as the Caversham Peripatus, latin name Peripitoides novaezealandiae. This small pocket of bush is the only place in the world that this species has been found - and it is currently threatened by a motorway widening which will carve two extra lanes right over the very spot where I found this cute specimen today. You can hear the traffic noise of the nearby motorway in this video. How many more species will we let go extinct just so we can drive more cars around??

You can read more about the Caversham Velvet Worm here: http://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/155810/highway-threatens-killer-worm there are several more articles on the ODT website about it as well, just search peripatus.
