At only 32 years of age, Irvin Mayfield has already received some of the most important recognitions in the music world. In addition to the Billboard-Award, in 2010 the young New Orleans composer won a well-deserved Grammy Award, together with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and with Book One, in the "Best Large Jazz Ensemble" category.
Mayfield is a skillful trumpeter and has been also standing out for his role as musical entrepreneur. The famous Irvin Mayfield Jazz Playhouse on Bourbon Street owes its existence to Mayfield and his will to bring jazz back to the French Quarter: the result is a luxurious jazz club in which more than fifty musicians from the city can perform each week.
At JazzAscona, Mayfield will direct an exceptional band, the Playhouse Revue, which, following the club's philosophy, includes some of the most acclaimed artists from New Orleans, among others guitarist and banjo star Don Vappie, trumpeter Leon "Kid Chocolate" Brown, saxophonist Derek Douget, and pianist Ronald Markham..
