Flipping the dish upside down works great for satellites that are right on the horizon and trying to hit it with an offset dish right side up. I used this technique several time during a deployment in Afghanistan and trying to hit 7W from the eastern hemisphere. Don't knock it til you try it, because it's not a myth it's a fact.

I don't see the point of it
it's like taking a motor from a new car and using it power a lawnmower... kindof pointless...actually tells us about how much free time you have and what type of looser you are

Maybe I can experiment with a dish I have which is not currently being used. It's one of the smaller dishes from a prescription service.

I am still trying to figure out it how this works by just turning the dish upside down. Could you please explin it to me.
how do you find the bird. by eye? cos i guess the Azimuth and Elevation wil not match the dish indicators (the little numbers on the dish)

The Az. is the same and I use the Signal Quality meter display on the front of the TRAXIS DBS receiver, you can also just guess the ele. and do a blind scan, you will bump into a signal, then you peak the dish exactly onto the signal. Fun stuff!

nice setup does it hurt to paint them?

A thin coat of paint does not hurt,I use flat matt black on all my dish, it helps here in MN. during the winter, the sun heats then ans any snow or ice soon melts off.
