It's a pejorative term, and even if Rosie did not mean to insult people or anger them, she should have known better. When people use 'ching chong', it's usually to mock those of east Asian descent. Not really funny when it's directed at you.

In common use, I make a bit of a distinction about what stereotyping means. I'll use my own race as an example: to say that the "stereotypical" african american person, who wears hip-hop clothing, listens to rap, speaks in urban/ebonic slang and smokes Black & Milds doesn't exist is simply foolish. I see dozens of them every day. It becomes stereotyping when you meet a black person and automatically assume they act the same way simply because they're black.
