You Can't Do This to People

Sacred Heart pastor Edwin Gros, and a group of Segundo Barrio residents (Comite Voces del Barrio), Sacred Heart parishioners and their supporters from the Paso Del Norte Civil Rights Project, Paso Del Sur and Father Edwin Gros of Sacred Heart Church in El Paso protest City Council's rejection in February 2008 of an ordinance that would make sure that the "blight" rationale is only used for buildings that are actually blighted and not for entire zones that will destroy the heart of their neighborhood. The City Council had refused to allow them speak the week before when the residents were told that the vote was posptoned. Once the barrio residents left, the City Council voted on the issue. City rep Robert O'Rourke is the son in law of billionaire developer William Sanders who is the driving force behind the demolition plan.
