After battling ongoing floods, locals in India may soon be faced with yet another crisis a possible major epidemic outbreak. Let's find out more about the situation. STORY: Officials are not ruling out an outbreak of water borne diseases among the more than 2 million people displaced in makeshift relief camps. Hygiene and sanitation are now the most pressing concerns for both the locals and the Indian government.
Locals said that a look at the condition of the thousands of flood victims in the makeshift relief camps is enough to make one realize that they are waiting to fall prey to the disease outbreaks.
[Ram Manohar, Flood Victim]: "We came here from a flood affected area. We are in a hospital and our child has diarrhea. We are facing a lot of problems."

In the absence of proper toilets, people are defecating in the open; women are cooking with muddy water, and children are playing in the floodwater.
Bihar residents have witnessed the worst floods in living memory. The current catastrophe has claimed more than ninety lives and over three million people have been displaced.
