Since the end of the 1970's, Preston Table Tennis Association - founded in 1928/29 - had been experiencing a decline in interest. This has now changed. Thanks to a collaboration between ourselves, Preston Borough Council and with the help of lottery funding we now have a top class table tennis centre at St Augustine's, Avenham, Preston. Watch this video to see how moving to our Centre in 2005 has allowed us to rebuild our Association and promote table tennis in the Preston area as a sport for the young or old; social or competitive player. Thank you.

  • When I went to UCLAN 4 years ago I played TT in Preston (Tony might remember me as he would give me a lift every week to practice on a Tuesday). What I remember from that club then was a lot of dedicated people going against the odds, in that it was always a problem finding decent venues to play in. I am very happy to hear that this is no longer the case, I hope that the sport continues to grow in Preston

  • Hi Ben, I've been in touch with Tony and yes he does remember you. He says if you're ever in the area again you're very welcome to come and look us up. Details are on our website. Thanks

  • Nice story... great work over the years!

  • On behalf of the PTTA thanks for your kind words. Lets hope we can continue to take advantage of the opportunities our Table Tennis Centre has provided us with to develop table tennis further in the Preston Area. And as we grow lets hope the centre also encourages our members to keep coming forward and offering their support because without the help of volunteers, no matter how good the playing facilities our league would cease.

  • i am from macedonia and i practice for one year. i play three time better then them and i am 13

  • You miss the point of the video darko16rjk. It's about how our league moving to a table tennis centre helped us rebuild and bring more people into our sport.

Our move created much healthy debate in our Association. This video shares our experience to help others who may have to make the same decision one day.

It is good you play better darko16rjk but more important than 1 person is that we all encourage as many people as possible to play table tennis regardless of how good or bad they are.

  • i can relate to a lot of things said, like the problem of venues, which is a big problem for us. one of the worst things our league did was to stop young players playing in it.

  • Thanks for that, I am now living in the US and table tennis is great here for the "average" level. Any one can play in the tournaments, they have a very good rating system here in the US. When I finally return to the UK and am in the area I will defineately stop by. Tell Tony I said hello, but don't tell him that he has not changed a bit apart from the white hair. Thanks, Ben.

  • ok sorry for missing the point on this video

  • Now, now Phil - at least Chintan agreed to me filming him!
