ALBUM AVAILABLE HERE: http://links.emi.com/Love ... Kate Royal presents 'A Lesson in Love', an intimate recital by lyric soprano Kate Royal with pianist Malcolm Martineau charting a young girl's journey of love and loss through a combination of German lieder, English and American songs and French melodies. The exclusive iTunes digital album also includes a bonus track, Reynaldo Hahn's Infidélité. Royal's very personal song cycle follows two critically acclaimed orchestral discs, the eponymously titled Kate Royal and Midsummer Night.

'A Lesson in Love' is presented in four chapters: Waiting, Meeting, Wedding and Betrayal. It follows a young girl's relationship from her first kiss and the thrill of blossoming love to the joy of love fulfilled. There is disappointment and anger when the relationship breaks up, leading to eventual acceptance, and even a glimpse of optimism about the possibility of future love. Royal brings a youthful approach along with an "unutterably beautiful timbre" to repertoire that includes William Bolcom's cabaret-inspired Waitin, Schumann's Jemand, Debussy's Apparition, Frank Bridge's Love went a riding, Richard Strauss's Hochzeitlich Lied, Britten's O waly Waly and Copland's Heart we will forget him.

  • waow..it's so beautiful voice..

  • stunning

  • A beautiful arrangement, simple but well suited to the melody and poetry of the lyrics... a perfect marriage of voice and piano... really, very beautiful!

  • I love how the pianist looks so happy. He looks like he is totally in his element.

  • Wow !

  • Beautiful voice, wonderful control - just lovely to listen to. One question for discussion: when does scooping enter back into a trained singers' bag of expressive tricks? This is a folk tune thats supposed to have no pretension. Her extra, portamento-like scoops make it sound overdone. I am always most impressed by trained singers who are able to use their technical know-how to good effect, but who are able to sound natural in the process.

  • An Irish Tune that will endure forever and sung well

  • A wonderful recital, an art lesson!

  • It makes me cry, it's so beautiful! Does anybody know who made this piano arrangement? Thank you.

  • ' Danny Boy ' a marvelous old song...and Kate Royal, a marvelous singer !
