I made a Comparison video for Quake II
N64 PSX and PC.

I believe the n64 version holds true to the PC version.
and..I don't know why the PC segment seems so..loud.
Anyways Enjoy!

  • PC version is the best, but the ps1 version has a few advantages over it. The N64 version looked realy poor, mainly because it didnt have CD's and didn't have much space.

Oh, and why didn't the ps1 version have any soundtrack?

  • it did, it had the PC version + expansion soundtrack. The Emulator didn't want to play it off my CD for some reason.

  • The PSX version was closer to the PC then N64 was but they are all good ports for the consoles.

  • PSX version had some of the PC levels, but it lacked the power to make them look good. It didn't even have a sky box haha.

    Or moveable water.

Hell the Saturn version of quake had a sky box XD and moveable liquid :P

  • The PSX version and the PC version rocks! The N64 is like a "mod" of the original game.

I like the PSX version because you can put a mouse as a joystick and play it like the PC version (Without keyboard).

But I always think that the original versions are the better. The PC version rules because you can play it in 1600x1200 with 30 fps and it's VERY VERY VERY different from the PSX resolution of 320x480.

  • WTF the PSX clip most be emulated!

  • n64 version could have been much better, they could have used a larger cartridge like the resident evil 2, or turok 2, a cartridge could fit the whole game easier, and better graphics than the ps1, but they used a cartridge with little capability instead of using a higher capacity ... dumb. turok 2, 007 goldeneye they have much better graphics than quake2, the n64 had the potential to have a perfect version of quake2, but the developers have done a bad job.

  • @munxcorp

The video is a bad example for comparison of different versions of Quake 2 as it is in a bad quality.

since the N64 version is better than the PS1 version ;-)

alone because of the texture filter ^ ^

But if one could be an expansion pack then call their own then the N64 version was graphically far superior to the PS1 version.

Only in music but in the console version does not really exist is the PS1 version is better than the N64.

But there is nothing like the PC version of Quake 2

  • Not a very fair comparison. The PSX version is badly emulated, without CD music, half the framerate and half the speed. Ugh. The N64 is actually a lot choppier than the PSX version.

  • @Couchsportler though there is general consensus that pal is best

  • I have emulator and i use controls normaly.Too bad my psOne dosent work anymore :(

  • I prefer the PC version first, and the PSX version 2nd. I don't mind graphics because I have played game with much shittier graphics, so much that I can't see a thing cough, doom on an old laptop, cough. I haven't got used to the PSX controls yet, as I just got the game off ebay recently. My only gripe of the N64 version is that it runs smoothly at first, but the gun firing animation is a bit choppy.

  • Yeah it was on a emulator, but it actually plays very fast. At the time my recorder slowed down the game. It actually runs at a great 60 frames per second.

  • Quake 2 is cool, there are secret levels, but i prefer quake 4, the history isn't that long but it's cool
