(Part 2) Severe thunderstorm in the Mojave Desert of California, along Interstate 40 between Barstow and Needles, August 23, 2009. SPC had issued a slight risk for severe thunderstorms, 15% outline for large hail for this area. The storm did produce radar-indicated 2" hail but was out in open desert. This was storm #2 of two severe storms I intercepted that day. See Part 3 Lightning sequence # 1 for continuation on this storm. (Note: This storm was producing flash flooding along National Trails Highway. Although a core punch was tempting, I opted to stay out of it due to the flash flooding danger, especially at night along a little-travelled road.) (Note: this is a higher quality repost)
