  • yeah, what's cruel or mean about this? I don't think they are hurting the donkeys. Are people who are against donkey basketball also against riding horses? Its the same kind of thing just in a different context. The donkeys don't seem to be mistreated and it doesn't look like there suffering or anything. What's the problem?

  • How completely pointless and degrading. Using animals for 'fun' in such a way is no better than people who used to visit 'freak' shows and pelt unfortunate humans with fruit.

Leave these animals in a field where they belong and have your silly human games without them.

  • The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?

    Jeremy Bentham, the philosopher

  • yes, I agree with Karune, you can say its since the 70's but it is simply not true, it is cruel and inhumane and your flawed thinking speaks for itself. Donkey basketball has been cruel for years, even before the 70's. So is donkey roping, so is dog fighting and cock fighting, been doing that since the 70's too

  • Donkey basketball fundraisers send kids the message that its OK to abuse and humiliate those who are weaker than they are. Besides being yanked and mistreated by children with no handling experience, in order to keep them from having accidents on the court, the frightened, confused donkeys are often deprived of food and water for hours before games. Schools from coast to coast have stopped hosting cruel donkey basketball because they want to help nurture kind kids, not bullies.
