North and South (AU) Impressions and Dreams

Okaaaaay this video is nearly 7 mins long but to have cut it down will have made it rubbish and ive tried to make it good (though Elizabeth Gaskells story is far superior).

So here's the story

Margaret is taken to the great exhibition with her Aunt, cousin and the Lennox brothers. There she over hears a man speaking about industry and workers and she is intrigued, as she listens he catches her gaze. Later Margaret and Henry bump into the same man and it turns out Henry vaguely knows him.

Sometime after Mr Hale moves Margaret and Mrs Hale to Milton due to a matter of conscience, there after remembering what Mr Thornton spoke of and her own charitable nature Margaret tries to help the poorer community around her. One day she catches Mr Thornton passing in the street though he is too preoccupied to see her. Later Mr Thornton comes to offer an invitation to Mr Hale (his tutor) and his family to the Thorntons annual dinner despite rumours of a strike. Margaret walks in not realising Thornton is there, he recognises her. Knowing of Mrs Hales indisposition Mr Thornton sends fruit round and Margaret is sent to say thank you in person. She encounters thornton at the mill beating a worker and is disgusted with him and her first impressions as he had been on her mind for some time.

As the strike edges ever closer, Thornton now realises that Margaret strongly dislikes him and he is troubled by this. After a comment by Hannah, John states that he knows Margaret could never marry him but a mill strike soon distracts him. It is Margaret who again challenges Thornton on his attitude to workers, this prompts him to seek the help of Higgins to bridge the gap (please excuse huge plot hole about ending of strike here)

Eager to change Margarets opinion of him he rushes to her house, but she brushes him off as her mother has taken a turn for the worst. Thornton leaves, finally resigned to her thinking ill of him and that never changing. Mrs Hale passes away. It is at this point where Margaret realises she loves Thornton but seeing how their acquaintance has progressed and that she has rivals she and her father decide a holiday away from Milton is the best idea. She travels to London to stay with Edith, her father goes to stay with Mr Bell. Here Mr Hale passes away, happy as he can be without Mrs Hale.

Thornton is saddened by this and imagines coming to Margaret in her grief stricken state and offering her comfort. Both Thornton and Margaret travel to Helstone and just miss one another even though their minds are only thinking about the other. Realising her life is her own, and after being given money from Mr Bell (the one clip i forgot to put in sorry) she tells Henry she is travelling back to Milton for good. She visits the Mill but finds Thornton not there, so in her desperation she writes to him as he's the only person she believes can understand. Upon reading the note Thornton dashes to the station believing Margaret to be leaving again, instead he sees Henry has arrived.

The Thorntons hold another dinner party and unbeknown to Thornton his mother has invited Margaret after no longer being able to bear seeing her sons unhappiness. He soon spots Margaret and forgetting everyone else heads straight for her.

The last few scenes are meant to represent their engagement, the pair are engrossed in happy conversation and then share a kiss.
