@Estragon17 Anyway, the point is that certain things appeal to the masses, and certain things only appeal to a minority. That's how these companies "target" their audience. The second point is that an appropriate allocation is made to the musicians. The unfortunate fact is that creating and marketing art costs a lot of money and that money is distributed appropriately to all arms of that creative process. The artist gets very little because that's what's left. Executives are no exception to this

@Estragon17 Another of Henry Rollins' tragic flaws is his tendency to misplace opinion with fact. He often compares one record to another as "good to bad" or "better" or "worse quality", and that's what you just did. There is no such thing as "quality movies, music, art and culture" - it's a simple matter of what appeals to the individual's taste. Nobody has the right to declare any piece of entertainment "good" or "bad" because that's a completely incorrect judgement to make.

@ktrel54 Because people don't know how to behave when they don't have that sort of thing going on. The alternative is actual quality movies, music, art, and culture. You say there would be no money made, but you have to look at how much of the money now goes towards overpaid actors and overpaid executives... in every industry. In the music industry how much goes to acts like Rollins and how much to executives? the non-Britney acts make 2 or 3 bucks per unit sold.

What's your fucking point Henry? Money makes the world go round, and anybody with half a mind would be able to understand that to make money, production companies need X many people to see the movie. Therefore, they advertise, and by advertising, they choose a demographic. If they didn't do what Rollins described as so terrible and unholy, then nobody would go to see their fucking film. If they didn't target us as their demographic, there would NO entertainment for us to go to. Simple.
