I've run 70.3/IM with and without socks. It took 5 seconds to slip on angle socks. It took 3 weeks for the feet to fully heal after those 2 competitions where I saved those 5 seconds. My shoes fit perfectly(no blisters or sore spots after a marathon with socks) but I don't use tape or lubes/creams in the shoes, so can't say if those shoe ruining things work or not. For the bike its not so important unless you wanna make sure the shoe heel/strap doesnt rub against your achillies.

In an ironman transition seconds are not important says the back of the pack age grouper. FYI I do not wear socks during an ironman, period. Not on the bike, not on the run (of course the kind of shoes do matter). The only time I wear socks in training is when the weather is too cold not to wear them. Hence the announcement when you cross the finish line.... " _______ you are an Ironman!"

I took a crap after my bike to run transition and was still faster than that. No socks. Jam your foot into shoes while buckling helmet. Just my advice. Why give up "free" seconds?
You never now when you'll need that time to go to the bathroom!

she wasnt actually that fast....
Guys this is an ironman transition. Seconds aren't really too important when you see the distance of this race. Socks are extremely important to prevent rubbing and blistering at this distance.
