It's true that this idea I'd not that great but the mindset these people have is very good and could be used in similar ways to do things that are highly affective

One word: novelty
This wouldn't be fun for long. People throw trash in because the novelty fascinates them. Now, if you can make a trash can that shows you boobs or grants wishes you might be on to something.

This is an amazing example of how we can think outside the normal construct of this artificial reality we live in.
Although I do question whether its effects will be long lasting, we can't simply write it off as "won't work" because we don't know!
If only more people were this creative, maybe real life would be fun and we wouldn't have to dwell in stupidity such as reality tv and the like.

at least theyve done more then written off the problem as cultural flaw. change will never occur without an individual shift in perception. look at the numbers: this bin collected 41kg more waste, meaning the park is cleaner and people have a better association with cleaning it up. This prototype helped, and if it breaks who says it cant be easily fixed? this attitude will never get us anywhere, finding excuses for something to fail instead of looking at the amount of positive influence it had.

I am NOT saying DON'T make creative trash-cans. However, I AM saying that making funny trash-cans will definitely NOT HELP people pick up trash.

If you look at the big picture, it will only cost a bunch to make something that will get Stolen, broken, or wear off fun. Again, you gotta look at the big picture. Its a brilliant idea, but it won't help.

And I am not being boring, but realistic. I just thought some people here could use a little common sense. Its fun, but it won't help.

hmm, well what i think is,
1. they tried
2. it was a really good effort because it worked, be it only for a day or a week or month, people are picking up random trash and cleaning up the park just out inquisitiveness and fun.
3. move the dustbin around, and new people will see it and the fun won't wear out
4. once again, they tried, and it was better than nothing, so don't complain, instead suggest something better.

I see what your saying. And, I wasn't complaining, just trying to show it simply won't help people pick up trash. Thats all.

And as for my better suggestion. Like I said, the people need to change.

But I think the problem goes deep. I think this country has been teaching its youth that the government will take care of you. That the government will teach your children and protect you. Which I think has caused people to sort of, be lazy, and not care. Like I said, the problem goes deep.
