A Catholic believes that the message of the early church and the Catholic church is the same. However the salvation message proclaimed by the Apostles Peter, Paul and John, and the early believers was that of grace through faith. It was not salvation in any church but in the person of in Jesus Christ the Lord. Many bible believers have not really analyzed the history of the early church. What wonderful proof that the early church Fathers testified to the authority of Scriptures "which cannot be broken"! Bennett is a marvelous discovery and I recommend listening to him to get back on track away from the emergent church philosophies and encroachment of the new age.

Of course that it is a sin to not do the things that God ordained, but that doesn't mean there is an actual substance in it, but more of an ordinance to remember his death.

For example, the old testament of circumcision, God ordained and commanded to be done, and those who are not circumcised will be cast off. So at that time, Israel started to trust in the work of the ordinance and believed in true salvation by that. But Paul refuted that later in Romans.
