http://blog.yafla.com/Flash_on_Android_Slightly_Better_Than_Shockingly_Bad/

I present this as a bit of a counterpoint to some of the negative Flash examples: Flash on mobile isn't a revelation in mobile usage, but it's an nice option to have when the need arises.

As a long-time Flash critic (and not of the Follow-Steve-Jobs variety), I don't cheer it on, but I do enjoy having the ability to utilize it where it is necessary.

Sorry about the narrative audio quality -- it's from my webcam microphone. Editing was limited to ordering for time.

  • You seem pretty passionate about this, lin2log.

HTML5 is not magic -- it's a (well...sometimes) H264 stream with renderer. Flash video is usually an H264 stream with a renderer. The reason the former often beats out the latter is simply because it is almost always targeted at iDevices, whereas the latter is targeted at desktops. Hopefully hardware acceleration keeps improving all players though.

In a perfect world we wouldn't need Flash. Nor would we need apps. The latter is far greater sin.

  • I desperately need an android phone, or Frash (Jailbreak) on iOS needs tou improve. I often get stumped by one of my favourite content sites I can't check out when I'm out without a pc... I have a WinMO hacked with android 2.2, but the performance is laughable at best... That's when you get when you're still just a kid :)

  • Flash on OS X is shit. Period.

Please shut up about shitty Macs and bla. They're the same damn hardware under the hood as a PC. Every SINGLE thing else on OS X is low-CPU and smooth.. yet Flash just falls over, then again, then kinda does a little tumble.. then the machine fans activate. Jesus Adobe, you got it smooth on Windows- congrats on changing nothing on OS X. And - yes - it's the same with the latest Flash which supposedly GPU decodes. Yay.

  • @mooska3 LMAO

  • @lin2log Incredible, several posts, and not even one with sense. I didnt know its even possible :) I really hope youre just 11, cause otherwise I dont see this world going anywhere. Have a good time growing up, hope your mom wont ban you very soon, cause you make these comments a real fun.

  • @mooska3 Whatever *yaaaawn*... yet another post that proves you have no clue, so a complete waste of my time. Feel free to argue yourself even further into a corner on your own there Sparky... I'll be over here LMAO.

  • @lin2log Well, just search for html5 flash performance, seems like youtube changes links when posted. Well, html doesnt have api in the direct meaning of the word, but has some possibilities, and these are far behind flashes.

Every browser uses its own codec for html5 video tag, firefox uses theora, IE, Safari - h.264, so to provide video throu this tag you have to have 2 files and switch them when needed. Yes, it is useless. Still no args ? Shame.

    Your so funny :) how old r you ? 11 ? :D

  • "then youve got a shitty mac"

HUH??!! Who the fuck ever said I have a MAC??!! What the fuck does this have to do with MAC or APPLE??! You really have to make shit up just to make a point, don't you??

    Pathetic.

Don't want to be called a moron?? Then get an IQ and stop BEING one. Pretty simple concept... even for a complete moron!

  • Are you a COMPLETE idiot?? LOL! I point out that that clip doesn't even show VIDEO and you? You post it AGAIN! :-)))) Is that how little you have, huh??

You BABBLE AND BABBLE... html5 doesn't HAVE API's you idiot! LOL! you just pick this shit up somewhere and just repeat some acronym you have no clue about to sound like you have ANY idea what your blathering! :-D ... pathetic.

"useless due to codecs"??!! LOOOL!.... WHAT??? Have you been forgetting your meds??!

You're a waste of my time, STFU

  • @lin2log

many js libs are based on flash, and you dont event know it, ie. google use it in gmail for uploading, and gpu decoding is OBVIOUS for anyone that know how it works. If flash performance is shitty for you ... then youve got a shitty mac, your fault.

  • @lin2log

Is that all you are able to say ? "Moron" ? Lacked of arguments ? Use google. youtube.com/watch?v=K_RBY23OxBM I use both flash/html and I know whats the diference. Flashs API is DECADES further then html and it will be that way, as html5 specs are planned to be completed in 2020. Is seems that your dont know what is it all about. HTML5 is not a flash replacement, only common things are canvas ( very restricted ) and video tag, wich is useless right now, due to codecs.
