Short video of the big bean in chicago.
Actual name is Cloud Gate. It is 66 feet long 33 feet high and weighs about 110 tons. It is made of over 160 different steel plates formed then wielded together and highly polished.

  • @walkwithchappy We were so busy gettin the family together to make the trip up to chicago that I didn't even think to bring my etrex. I'll check the website later. I saw you put a walking video up the other day but when I went to watch it a little while ago it was gone.

  • Ok I guess I am a little slow. What is it ( bean????) ( cloud gate????) and what does it do? ( a real gate of some kind???)(art????) ??? I see someone bought Mrs Spears ex boyfriends hat lmao Cool vid thanks

P.S This will sound kinda crazy but maybe its shaped like a bean or cloud and its a gate!! I.D.K.!! Yankees what will they think of next?? LMAO

  • @Orangesunshine1 When you walk around Chicago tall buildings are everywhere and block a lot of sun and sky. The artist want to be able to bring the sky and clouds down closer the ground. He got the idea from playing with a ball of mercury. The bean is just it's nickname. The guy in the hat is my son in law lol.

  • It's a giant fortune cookie. Definitely an awesome structure.

  • @robertpina99 Are you still in Chicago? It was my first time there, this was thanksgiving weekend.

  • i just read a story about this piece. It cost over 20 million, not including maintenance. I don't think the city had to pay a dime though, which is probably good. 200k per ton is small in comparison to say a Van Gogh ha! Wish I could see it up close, very interesting.

  • @mobiltec Luckily there is a deli located directly underneath the bean lol.

They had to shore up the ceiling and walls when the bean was installed.

  • That's one big shiny bean man... Art is cool but you can't eat that.
