Today we finished our clean up along the south end of Sand Island, picking up 20 more bags of trash, and we examined the stomach contents of dead albatrosses. In Bird #3, we found more than 120 pieces of trash.

I was on Midway years ago when there wasn't a plastic problem. Most of the baby goonies either starved to death or were eaten by sharks.
Has anybody done a study of why the birds eat the plastic? My experience tells me that they are starving and are desperate.

Great work all of you!! It's pretty sad that people don't think before throwing their garbage just anywhere. Save the ocean!!
