The reason the moon gets a crimson glow to it is because the sun's rays are coming through the earth's atmosphere ( which is between the sun and the moon, Ex: S-E-M) and it passes to the moon, giving a reddish glow to it, only happens every few years because of the earths tilt in association with the moon in it's orbit.
