Let's Paint in Pastel from Margaret guides you through a series of topics with advice on blending techniques, color mixing, interpreting shapes and shadows, and more. You'll practice working with soft pastels, oil pastels and pastel pencils as you paint skies, trees, water, and other elements of the landscape, as well as a still life and flowers. Join Margaret to brush up on your pastel skills, or try this rich, pure medium for the first time.
In this preview from Let's Paint with Pastel you'll learn to mix and blend color, create value changes and more as you paint this apple with oil pastels. Visit www.artistsnetwork.tv for the 60-minute full-length workshop.
If you want to make a photorealistic apple with pastel, does it help to see the apple 'flat'?
Is closing one eye (depth gone), and then look at it off focus, a good method in order to get the light and dark tones right?
And if these are done, then perhaps working on the details?

this clip is hardly representative of the entire video, which is all soft pastel. The only oil pastel shown is this 5 minute clip, just to compare to soft pastel. Her videos are stunning, and she makes everything look so effortless, a fantastic teacher.

This woman is a master pastel artist. She is showing beginners how to use oil pastel (not soft pastels), and not how to become a master after lesson one. Your ridicule is ridiculous...
