This video is of me and Steve, a private addon with 15hrs total time practicing some autorotations in an R22 Helicopter at the Gatlinburg airport (GKT). This video describes step by step instruction on how to perform an autorotation and many of the common mistakes made, which can be seen on the video. At 30.0 hrs Steve passed his private checkride with flying colors.

  • Normally when you autorotate you won't have power available. So why do you say to crack the throttle just before touchdown? What good will that be with no power? Are you just protecting the machine from a hard smack that would be survivable if you were not just practicing?

  • @c6rocks If you want to see autos to the ground check out the Full-Down training with Hunter. These videos were in the beginning stages of learning autos which terminate to a hover with power. When we say just crack the throttle that is to allow the engine to get back to 100% in time to terminate into a hover.
