In this clip, a pigeon is presented with pairings of a 5-s white circle and 5-s access to grain. These CS-US trials are repeated approximately every 60 s. At first, the bird shows no interest in the circle (or the grain!). The bird soon recognizes and eats the grain US and, soon after, begins orienting toward the circle CS. After a number of trials (varying across birds from as few as 10 to over 100), the bird begins to respond to the CS, suggesting that the bird has learned a Pavlovian association between the CS and the US.
