@superman11978 "Only suckers learn to sight read " Possibly the dumbest moronic comment I've ever read ..you thick shit ..

Many rock musicians I know fluffed their playing learning their instruments. Its like finding a gimmick if you dig it and stick it out others probably will listen. I've made money playing in clubs cause I was able to memorize cover guitar I learned by ear like the way a lyre bird reproduces sounds it hears accurately in nature. But its only now I've begun to understand chord and scale theory that would of bored my head off years ago. If I redid myself I'd say learn a bit and apply it asap.

@Dihelson haha. The reason McCartnet and Mozart etc. are the 'GREATS' as you put it, it's because they are great.

"AGAIN, a rather boring answer. I wish I had a medical answer for you."
Oh, what a guy.

@Dihelson If you think it's so basic and easy, why don't you create something better and show it to us? I like Bach, Mozart, Chick Corea, etc., but I also like Paul McCartney. If his music isn't real, why is it that so many people are really moved by it? Is it because their taste is inferior to yours?

Fellows, thanks for the dozen comments :) - I will reply with this: Yes, I could compose something very basic as Paul McCartney, or even LISZT could have composed, or Marc Andre Hamelin, or any other, but there´s a problem: My name is not PAUL MCCARTNEY. I could have composed Beethoven 9th, people would like. But if the GREAT Paul McCartney write a Fart, people applause !!! - He´s a Genius ! AHA... thanks

People generally become great by their 20's. If they haven't done it by then, they usually never do it. Thus, there is very limited time and one must choose certain things to learn and practice.
Paul could have enrolled in music school and studied every textbook on music theory. He'd have been a master of it and you'd have never heard of him. Instead, he joined a band and focused on playing and singing and fucking around all day, then started writing. That path lead him to, well, you know.
-
@Dihelson You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. If McCartney's music is so basic, why don't you write it and make a billion dollars? Because you can't. Because it's extraordinary music and takes extraordinary talent, and you are talentless, but because you took a class on music theory you think you're special.

Believe me, he can do a Bee Gee's voice. Or at least he could when he was younger. Paul has the most versatile voice I've ever heard.
And again -- only suckers and classical musicians learn to sight read. It was once a necessary part of music, now it's not. Just like great writers these days don't need to learn calligraphy anymore -- they can just type it up now. Something tells me if Mozart was born in Paul's age, he'd have said screw that granny "classical" crap, I'm going into rock.

It's well known in the industry that milly vanilly played everything for the beatles.
Being a technically trained musician is great on the one level, but I think there's something to be said about just going on intuition & feel. The Beatles and John & Paul, specifically, came up with a lot of beautiful melodies without knowing and understanding every scale, chord and piece of technique. The natural use of their gift vs. being schooled allowed them to do things the "wrong" way musically, which only helped to foster their inventiveness and innate genius. No problem with that. :-)

@MrDuncanChapman I don't know if Paul can read music or not, but he never said he doesn't know what the notes, chords, and rhythms are. There are people that can speak and cannot read a book. I think George Martin did most of the added production.
