Shane Speal goofing on the three-string cigar box guitar. He's been playing this instrument for over 16 years. It's simply a stick shoved thru a cigar box with three strings added. His slide of choice is a 3/4" spark plug socket.

Whats the best strings to use for a 3 string guitar? Nylon or steel? Whats most common and whats used in this video?

There are no rules...and no "best use" when it comes to cigar box guitars. Try any and everything! Nothing is common and everything is uncommon about these instruments. That's why they're so freakin' cool!

I personally use the A D and G strings from a pack of John Pearse Acoustic 'light medium' guage strings.

This may be the most amazing and inspiring performance and instrument I have seen in a long time. So very American and so "real". I'm grateful there are people in this country that take a simple thing and can do so much with it, as well as sharing your whole adventure

All I have to say is Keep it up and you should have a utube video on tuning 3 strings and four string CBG,s..That would help alot of newcomers..and you are definately the King brother :)
