It refuses to go HD, don't ask me why, silly thing wanted to be annoying I guess.

Yep, a bit different to my usual videos...

I made this really quickly, out of both boredom and the fact that people keep asking me how I make my backgrounds. I was tempted to make a bit of a tutorial, but decided maybe later, couldn't be bothered right now. If you watch carefully, you can probably still figure the basic gist of it.

I know I say I use PhotoShop for my graphics, but if you noticed that it doesn't really look like PhotoShop in the video, you're right - its a program called Jasc Paint Shop Pro. It works almost exactly like PhotoShop though, so if you want to try this yourself with PhotoShop, it won't be too hard if you have a fair knowledge of how the software works.

A couple of things I left out, because this was a really simple background:

1. Most of the transparencies I use in backgrounds are layer transparencies, not image transparencies. I use a different layer for each different transparency level.

2. You can make it appear so that an image goes over and under the same image (for example, feet of a character behind a ring of fire, and head in front of it). Select the piece you want to be on top of the second image, copy it, create a new layer, then paste it into selection on the NEW layer. Make sure the new layer is on top of the layer which the second image is on, and there you go.

I used graphics from the game RuneScape to build my background image, because that's mainly what I make videos of, though of course you can use whatever graphics you want. All copyright on the images belongs to Jagex, the creators of RuneScape. The music that I used is copyright to the authors. And to WGM, DON'T mute my soundtrack! This is a not-for-profit, personal use of the music, and therefore permitted under copyright law.

  • With my software, Ctrl+V is default for open in a new window (Ctrl+E is paste in the window you have open). For any other software, just check the Edit -> Paste menus, and it'll give you options to paste in a new window, new layer, new selection etc. Just look at the shortcut keys on there to figure it out.
