Grid has to be one of the most under-rated racing games on the market! It's not a racing SIM, but it's a step above your typical arcade racer. It falls between the two. I call games like GRID "ArcaSims". The graphics are amazing and easily hold their own (and in some cases surpass) other SIM racers in graphics. GRID probably has one of the best ratings out there for the "visual crashes". The visual damage to vehicles is one of the best in the industry. The driving physics aren't up to SIM specs, but are above your run of the mill arcade racer. When using these racing games, be it an arcade, SIM or "ArcaSim".., it is best experienced with a Racing Wheel. It is also crucial when playing games such as GRID and Need For Speed Shift to "tweak" your wheel settings. These ArcaSims have very general and basic default settings that often make the vehicles perform poorly. At default the vehicles run loose, and oversteer is a common issue.., as well as brake and accel pedals being either too sensitive or not sensitive enough. Once you dial in the perfect wheel configuration hold on to that wheel and RACE ON BABY!
GRID's now going for less than $20 (used). It is well worth the money too. I own several racing games (including Forza 2, Forza 3, and a few others). GRID is a special kind of ArcaSim because of the racing experience. The cockpit views are amazing..., and the in-car sounds are very well done. You'll lose parts of your car on the track.., break and crack windshields, windows, mirrors, ect. You can see your car panels flapping in the wind too. Damage your front end too much and you'll even see your radiator smoke. The visual damage is INSANE!
Sometimes it is hard to get a (clean race) in GRID because the AI is extremely rough on you and your car! You can piss off the AI in this game. They will bump you, swap paint, prevent you from passing, stop short, and so on. However.., the (always willing to kick your ass to the curb AI) in GRID is what makes the races so darn fun and exciting!
If you haven't already.., go out and get a used copy!
Nice laps. Good driving

Thanks..., it takes some time getting used to the analogue controls for this game. Much easier to use the MS Racing Wheel and tweek the settings. One of these days I hope to finish a race without the AI ripping my car to shreds ;-)

Used prices are really going down for this game. I got it for less than $20 at GameStop a few weeks ago. I can't pull myself away from it! I'm now playing this more than Forza-3!
