do you screw up the tivo warranty or tivo repair service when you open the case? Look on E-bay and there are good deals on hard drives!

anyone who looks at this: just for ur refrence if u open the top of ur tivo u will void the warrenty and tivo wont help u or support ur box as far as troubleshooting anymore

do you have to do anything to the drive to prepare it? or is the tivo able to format it once it is installed?

could you put in a 1TB or even larger sata drive? is there a size limit?

no any but the best are the harddrives with a hi time before falier

can it be any hdd or does it need to be a certain type for 24hr usage? if so what model number do you use can you upgrade to 2tb? thanks

No... it's not a dumb question... and yes you can use the hard drive in your computer, HOWEVER, if your running Windows only, you'll need to reformat the hard drive as TIVO runs on Linux

this may be a dumb question but i found a diffrent series box in a dumpster and took the hard drive, looks exactly like a CPU HDD so could i potentially use it in a computer if i format it?

so once u have done all that just power it up and format the hdd with tivo and u are right
