In 2008 my husband and I found ourselves attending the local parish, which happened to be St George's Cathedral in Southwark, for a time. The sound was recorded in that church on 2 Nov 2008, the date to which All Saints Day had been translated that year. Recorded in that church and with the camera either facing close to the floor or inside my handbag.
As the marks on the facade attest, Pugin's strong walls survived World War II. Much, however, had to be rebuilt. You may learn more about this at http://tinyurl.com/3yncl27
St George's, like many inner-city churches, marches on in faith and is constantly close to stumbling, financially. If you'd like to help in even the smallest way, go to the Web site above. You'll be able to sort it out from there. No one asked me to make this appeal; no one knows that I have.
Attending the Cathedral was the joy of a lifetime. A Sunday does not pass without my wishing that we were there again.
