Quest Software is a licensee of the Microsoft RDP Protocol, and has extended the protocol with features such as Seamless Windows, Enhanced Multi-montitor support, Multimedia Redirection, USB Device Support, bi-directional audio, and graphics acceleration.

This is a demonstration of the performance difference between Microsoft RDP 6.1 and Quest Software's graphic acceleration enhancements to the Microsoft RDP Protocol.

On the screen notice that I have configured the Vista SP1 Remote Desktop's local policy to Optimize RDP to use less network bandwidth. This is the maximum data compression level and best performance currently offered by Microsoft for the RDP Protocol.

Pause.

This test was performed across a bandwidth limited Wide area network with 150 miliseconds of latency.

As we can see, even with the highest level of RDP Data Compression, graphics are not displayed smoothly. Now I will show the same Microsoft Silverlight web content rendered with Quest's RDP Graphics Acceleration over the same network connection

As we can see with Quest's RDP graphics acceleration, the Silverlight content is displayed very smoothly. In addition to providing an excellent user experience, this technology dramatically reduces network bandwidth consumption, by up to 800%.

This graphics acceleration is not limited to web content, but rather any graphics displayed via RDP.

Quest's RDP Graphics acceleration is available as part of the Experience Optimization Pack for Provision Networks Virtual Access Suite, for Terminal Services, Virtual and Physical Desktops.
