Panic Over The Pacific Part 1 - Air Crash Investigation/Mayday

China Airlines Flight 006 encounters turbulence while flying to Los Angeles. The No. 4 engine flames out and the crew tries to restart the engine at too high an altitude. The aircraft banks slowly to the right but the crew do not notice the autopilot can no longer hold the aircraft straight and level. The captain disconnects the autopilot and immediately loses control, sending the aircraft into a spiralling nosedive. The Flight Engineer mistakes readings on the gauges for total engine failures on all engines rather than the Captain setting the throttles to idle. The extreme forces rip the undercarriage doors off and parts of the horizontal stabilizers rip off as well. The Boeing 747SP clears the clouds and the pilot can once again see the horizon. The crew recover the aircraft from the dive and the it lands safely at San Francisco despite control problems associated with the tailplane damage. Two people are hurt, but everyone is alive.

After watching many of these, I'm honestly impressed with how cool pilots remain under such crazy, terrifying circumstances. I like how he kept reporting the plane's altitude. "15,000 feet! 12,000 feet! 10,000 feet! Emergency! Emergency!" If that were me, all I could say is "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA­AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOMGOMGAAAAAAAAA­AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA­AAAAAAAA!!!"

I don't know much about planes, so I asked my hubby from the living room what would happen if the fuselage on the plane just suddenly fell off in mid flight. He came over to me from the other room, sat me down and asked me if I was seriously asking that question. I said yes. He replied, with a serious look on his face, "Honey, that's like saying your torso is going to spontaneously fall off while walking into the supermarket."

I never laughed so hard in my life.

Im going to hell for this, but when the plane started to bank to the right, and the guy said "The plane seems to be banking right". I laughed.

I know what you mean. I was hooked on a series of this before i went spain. In the plane, on the way there, i just expected the engines to cut out or sumin to go wrong!
