  • Hi Davie

Just wondering after watching all of your salmon flie tying over and over, which is your favourite salmon fly.

    Brilliant video.

  • Hi helopoblgwyn,

My best salmon fly is the Willie Gunn either tyed on a tube or a hook I also like it with a red head..I'm glad you enjoyed the video...

    All the best Davie

  • what kind of tubing did you use

  • Hi dbboythe,

It's a heavy duty plastic tube which Gordon Griffiths originally sold but as you may know the company has stopped trading. I started buying it direct from the gentleman that sold it to him but unfortunately he too has now stopped but I was fortunate to buy what was left of his stock so I'll never run out..

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Davie. Great tying videos! Thanx for sharing your knowledge.

I have a question regarding the very long wings on these tube flies. Do you ever have problems with salmon striking the wing but missing the hook? I'm new to tube fly tying and I'm quite taken aback by the size of these creations.

  • Hi ELEMENT0605,

The fish that I have taken on these flies have always took really well as the movement of the wing really gets them going even if you feel that the fly is too big, fish will at times come a good distance to have a go..If I did have fish coming short then I would try a couple of things, either fish it faster or put on a smaller fly..

    All the best Davie
