On March 3, 2009, I got to accompany Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife biologist Randy Cross and his team on a visit to a black bear's den in Edinburg. There, we met 17-year-old Beauty and her three 8-week-old, female cubs. This excerpt shows my interaction with the cubs. A full story on the den visit will be coming soon.

  • @redbird007 how do you know the mother doesnt reject the cubs once it has human scent on them when she wakes up ?

    thanks

  • @redbird007 Cool. I still don't like the ear rings but the blonde is cute.

  • @chad11950 The biologists put the mother under anesthesia. The mother and cubs are measured and weighed, and a sample of the mother's blood is taken for determining how much meat she ate before hibernating.
