This was an ongoing bit on the Steve Dahl & Garry Meier show from the late 80's. It was originally called "How To Talk Black" with Stan Lawrence (an old friend of the show, and later radio co-worker on WCKG before it's untimely demise) and the bit somehow morphed into being "Jivin' Miss Daisy" which is an obvious play on the movie "Driving Miss Daisy" starring Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy.
This particular piece is from 1990 (I incorrectly said '88 on the video) and originally aired on the old WLUP AM, The Loop (sister station to the original Loop FM 98) which really revitalized AM radio as being more than just a news or sports format (even though Rush Limbaugh seems to get credit for being the 'savior of the AM band' but Steve & Garry proved it first!) For quite some time it was one of the top stations in Chicago, and in the country, and featured other personalities like Jonathan Brandmeier, Kevin Matthews, Ed Tyll, Chet Coppock, Steve Cochran, and even Howard Stern for a brief period (Steve & Garry killed him in the ratings when they moved over to the FM Loop and Howard didn't do well until he was later syndicated into Chicago on the station that Steve Dahl was on in the afternoons, WCKG.)
Starring Steve Dahl as Miss Daisy (with the infamous "Lady From Tinley Park" voice, character within a character) and Garry Meier as Hoke (salad) with Stan Lawrence as writer and "how to speak black" consultant. A truly great and hilarious piece of radio history from the originator of free-form radio Steve Dahl.
Steve Dahl truly was the first of the so-called shock jocks, but wasn't shocking just to be so, he was shocking to some just because he was brutally honest (and funny as hell, still is) and had very little in the way of restrictions on what was open game for humor and satire. Long before Howard Stern, Don Imus, or any of the other well-known comedy radio talkers there was Steve Dahl, and a few years later his partner Garry Meier.
Not exactly a complex video in terms of movie-making, but I just wanted to share some more scraps of great Steve Dahl audio that I still have all these years later. I've actually been working on taking these cassette tapes and dubbing them onto the computer to make CD's and MP3 files, etc.
(And many, many thanks to Steve Dahl for not having these videos removed from You Tube, and of course for the many years of quality entertainment!!)
Jivin' Miss Daisy was a separate and different segment from How To Speak On Ya' (aka How To Speak Black).

I know, but one sort of grew out of the other, How To Speak Black being first, all courtesy of Stan Lawrence of course. Classic stuff either way.

Ya gotta love "The Lady From Tinley Park" playing a character, a character inside a character!
Thanks for the comment, later, Toast

Upon further consultation of the vast tape archive this audio is from 1990 (just in case any other radio nerds like myself were wondering!)
