On 9/19/09, a taxi crashed into a horse-drawn carriage in NYC. Carriage and taxi drivers rushed to the hospital. Horse bolted but is doing ok, I heard.

  • The industry is protected by 2 people at City Hall - Bloomberg, who says that carriages are good for tourism, and Quinn, who is beholden to the pro-carriage Queens democratic machine. Even if she didn't have this allegiance, she would still block the bill because she won't challenge the Mayor (What happened to checks and balances between the legislative and executive branches?). Bloomberg & Quinn have stripped City Hall of democracy, and the horses are just a few of the many victims

  • The difference is that taxicabs provide useful transportation while horse-drawn carriages are strictly for pleasure. If you got rid of all cabs tomorrow, thousands if not tens of thousands of people would have problems getting around the city. I don't like them and I don't take them, but there are people who can't or won't take subways or buses. Get rid of carriages tomorrow and some tourists would complain but they would survive and could quickly find other diversions.

  • hey why dont all you people that are trying to ban horse drawn carriages go after the stupid idiots that cant watch where they are going. i bet those carriages where in the right in most of those accidents and it was the cars fault.... stop attacking the horses. they are out there doing their job just like the rest of us in this world.

  • It's rather fuuny how they made this all epic. >.<

  • It sad what people make animals endure to boost business. What's wrong with replacing horse-drawn carriages with tour buses?

  • @horsechik1988 Who care who fault it is. If horses were not there these 'accidents' and horses dying wouldn't be taking place. Sucking up a cars fumes is harmful to a horses health and the carriages just clog up a city that is already clogged up.

No one is attacking the horses, just the opposite, free them from the carriage industry, now.

  • chest and their back-mainly in the winter time. How ever they are not being abused or neglected. These horses enjoy their work and the attention they get from people.

and for crying out loud like everyone else stated do your damn research about horses. Peta people make me sick. they go overboard and exaggerate every damn thing they see.

  • The people who run these business operate because they need to make a living. They care and love their horses to death. I have spoken to many men who run these businesses out in Boston and New York. They don't abuse their horses by working them. Horses enjoy working.

I have to agree with everyone else who stated that the horses do not freeze, how ever I disagree with that they do not get cold because they are like giant dogs and do need some sort of jacket covering their necks and

  • One word MONEY

  • Imagine if that was your horse..</3

  • @stopliesseetruth if you are stating the carriage company you are with is better cared for then you would not mind me taking a visit or photos of your establishment? Its just when I saw how bad the Phila Carriage cois I am under the assumption most carriage co's in the city are in the same boat. I would not mind getting to see how much better NYC carriage rides/stalls are....

  • @jediknightkass44 shows* _how) The fact I am even responding to this even boggles my mind I shouldn't care, but I just want people to be aware that if carriage rides can't be done correctly then they shouldn't be done at all.
