Mickey Gilley's "Stand By Me" was a #1 Country Music Hit on 8/9/1980 from the "Urban Cowboy" Soundtrack which was also a #1 Country Music Album on 8/2/1980 for 8 weeks and sold over a million copies. Mickey Gilley was the 23rd biggest Country Music artist of the '80's and had 17 #1 Hits, 34 Top 10 Hits, 2 #1 Albums and 21 Top 40 Albums. Mickey was the owner of the World famous Gilley's Nightclub in Houston from 1971 to 1989 when it burned down. Mickey has since opened two more Gilley's Clubs and preforms there thoughout thr year along with Johnny Lee.

@minimimi41 I went in 1982/1983 all i can say is i"ve been to alot of bars,taverns,honky tonks in my time but this place was a classic,after seeing the movie Urban Cowboy i had to go,i"m sure that place created alot of relationships and probable ruined just as many,it was a MEAT market, its really to bad it burn"t down but the way country music is going it probable wound not survive.

I wanted to go to Gilleys so bad as a kid and then the damn thing burned to the ground. Now I have to listen to family talk about going there in it's heyday. How utterly sickening!!!!!
