Recording from 18th September 2009 with Hans-André Stamm at the Mönch organ of the Catholic Parish church Sankt Andreas, Leverkusen-Schlebusch, Germany. This piece is a wonderful sample of Bach's mastership in illustrating a certain idea with tones, here the flowing of the river Jordan in the quick ondulating left hand passages.
My intuition says, that Bach took a 16' based labial registration as color for this effect, as it is recommended by Agricola and others for comparable passages.

  • @hansandrestamm : But porridge far more thixotropic. 'The Waters of Jordan' ! You know your imagery well !

  • Yes, I do prefer a slightly slower tempo and find your other performance of 684 wonderful. I also found this chorale on "Contrebombarde," the Hauptwerk website, which I found beautiful at a slightly slower tempo

Having said this, I use your other performances are "teaching guides" often! Please accept my critique (maybe a bit harsh, I admit) with the sincerest of intentions. I'm honored that your responded to me!

  • the left hand figuration represents the water flow of the Jordan, not a porridge, my friend.

In Waltershausen (also on Youtube) I played it slightly slower eleven years ago, perhaps you prefer this recording

  • :) I know :)

  • You play like Bach..
