Whispering Doug jams with banjo player Steve Allen in performing the Blues Revival Era (1960s) song, "Cairo Blues" by Henry Townsend, during a live blues concert at Doug's home September 27, 2008.
Most songs Doug Parker play are historic Mississippi Delta Country Blues from the Deep South's cotton plantations during the Great Depression of the late 1920s and 1930s. He also performs songs from the Blues Revival Era of the early 1960s. The Delta is the birthplace of the Blues and its roots date back to the Slave Days of the early Union.
Blues is a music genre of a true American heritage including soulful gospel and chain gang, and whisperingdoug presents a beautiful tribute to the Blues that are sure to revive again with the advent of the new recession and possibly a new Great Global Depression. The songs Doug plays are public domain.

I learned Cairo Blues from Henry Townsend, and he learned it from Henry Spaulding. It has a strange sound but is one of the few songs I know in standard tuning.
