We are lucky enough to have a special guest in the form of Ethan Winer this week. His latest book - The Audio Expert - Everything You Need To Know About Audio is just out now and is a guide to the science and electronics of audio - but for the non maths graduate. There's also considerable information about audio myth-busting - which Ethan has a natural flair for. Essential listening

right, but hes talking purely acoustically. he is saying that the sound itself will not change until you compress at high gains, he did not mention the loudness perception because that's a complicated conversation in itself. You're correct, but ethan is talking about the pre-perception

ethan really knows his stuff, but go to 1:01:05. Acoustics may be linear as volume increases but the contours of the ear are not at all. The ear is most flat at around 83 dBSPL. Wiki Equal Loudness Contours.

I have a moog lp and a prophet 5. I love to make music, but I'm just so afraid to record it. I'm so worried about it being recorded properly, and I can't help it.

WHOA he just drew a parallel between classical orchestration and mixing, which is something i've been banging on about for a while.
