  • PIGPEN! R.I.P. ...

  • @ValiRossi the counterculture at that time was actually so disgusted with the mainstream that they were practically banned from the radio. they only got bad press when they did get press, or laughable shit like they were too stoned to be so good. maybe if they had Brit accents and neat hairdo's or outfits, then they would have been considered cute. many reviewers who saw the extended jams of the Dead just didn't get it either.

  • Thanks for posting - great to see one featuring McKernan...I really loved what he brought to the band. He had that down hard blues edge which was a great contrast to the others. In Garcia's riff did you hear Phil's fantastic bass line... those 2 were so good together. Thanks again - great video

  • Damn i miss goin to see the dead&all the glory from the parking lot to the show! I went to All Good this year & it was a great show, but has been turned into a big rave, seemingly!People ain't the same as good ol Deadheads! Love to all who knows what i mean!

  • @ValiRossi They never hit mainstream because they never sounded good in studio. Their best stuff was always their live stuff, and live stuff doesn't get airtime. The only time the Dead were even remotely close to hitting it big was in the early 70s when they actually had some decent studio tracks (Truckin', UJB), or in the mid-80s with Touch of Grey. Otherwise they suffered the same fate as bands like Hot Tuna; you just can't put 15 minute songs on the radio.

  • Hey! Please give a few minutes on my shuffle video, been practicing for long, and i would love to hear what you think about my shuffle skills! THANK YOU! :-)

  • @ValiRossi who is HUGE in the mainstream these days? over-produced acts like beiber and lady gag-gag, no? probably the best guitarist on the planet, albert lee, where is he on the charts? the 'mainstream' is taken over by suits with scientific studies indicating which 'hook' will sell more copies. real talent has to work the small venues to make a living. this is the musical life in america. the good thing is that the 'talent' is still making music- just a tad more difficult to find.

  • Pigpen looks skinny this was obviously close to the end. :( He sounds great though!

  • @DaDa2Phlux search "yellow dog story", it's on youtube

  • @mojo31 Thanks for setting it right.Really tragic because there was so much help..I'm even more glad that I saw ,as my first concert in fall 69,the original lineup w/ "Pigpen" really cooking away on the "Lovelight" jam.I recall trying to understand a joke about a yellow alligator?? or a dog ??? being told to the crowd in the first few rows by Bob Weir while some strings were being put on Jerry's guitar. It was a little over my head at the time.Somebody out there must've heard the whole joke.
