i am afraid of linn drum machines
-
the 808 doesn't need to sound realistic..it needs to sound electronic, futuristic and it does, that's why many electro producers used it just for that reason.

@MARANTZamp and people like prince find a way to make it not matter! :)
-
@sweepee213 but the ones that actually get out there mostly use stuff that sound like 707s
-
@TeamNES1 i think the Roland R8 is sounding the most realistic

I must confess: It was foolhardy of me to make the statement that the LinnDrum is 1000x as realistic as the 808, when both machines are equal when it comes to realism.
I would take up drumming, but I'm lacking in funding and apartment space for a typical drum set. I don't have room for even a practice pad. I just wish I had space for it all.

If people want realism, they hire a drummer, not use a drum machine.
Electronic musicians use drum machines because of how they sound...not how realistic they do or don't sound.
-
Because the sampled PCM drum sounds don't always carry as much weight in a mix, as an 808 does.

Gotcha, chief.
To be honest, I really don't have a preference among certain drum machines, as I like any programmable drum machine. Although I do find myself using LinnDrum samples more often than TR-808 samples for reasons unexplained.

I don't understand it either. The LinnDrum sounds 1000x more realistic than 808's. I really don't blame Roger Linn for being tired of drum machines that "sound like crickets," (namely CR-78) and that was an almost direct quote from Roger in 1979, when he was explaining why he developed the LM-1.
Yes, we added the tuning pots.
