The likes of Bill Maher claim that DNA evidence disporves LDS/Mormon claims of Native Americans having Israelite blood.

This is an attempt to demonstrate the falacies one must hold to to believe as Bill Maher does.

  • Mormons made the doctrinal claim that the Nephites/Lamanites were the PRINCIPLE ancestors of the native americans. The whole lamanite thing was to account for the difference in the colour of the skin. It's Smith's folk lore. When evidence came out saying the contrary now the claim is AMONG the ancestors of the native americans. Why do you think they said principle first and then change their view? Because the evidence disproved their position!

  • What they changed was never part of the canonical scripture, it's always been mere commentary upon it. The evidence made them rethink their presumptions and with hold from continuing to present them, it did nothing for their 'positions,' that is it did nothing to the doctrine nor to counter what is actually laid forth in the Book of Mormon.

  • This is just another reason kids fail science these days.

  • Can you demonstrate explicitly where deficiencies are? Or were you among the kids that failed science?

  • the stuff in the mitochondrea is RNA. It's constructed in the nucleolous by DNA and is used to creat proteins out of amino acids. Waste of Jelly beans.

  • The end of the mechanics regarding the processes of the mitochondria is irrelevant because what's being discussed is the transmission vectors through the generations.

  • jellybeans wow...anyway even if we didn't have DNA testing it doesn't explain why there is not ONE scrap of evidence from the battles ect that are mentioned in BOM. EVERY Native American body that was tested was from ASIA and not one from the MIDDLE EAST. Also their language and culture even down to they way they named children is Asian in origin. Smith said they were the ancestors...not "somewhat" or "slightly" but that they were, so either way you slice it Smith was not God inspired but wrong.

  • DNA testing is used to correlate other methods, such as archaeology and linguistics, to determine precisely where a certain group of people came from. There is absolutely no evidence that any Israelite tribes were ever in North America. It's not enough to say that geneticists are wrong; you need to provide evidence in favour of your claim.

  • @mjuhl24 No one is exactly sure but you will need an old white top hat, some pet rock/seer stones, some "Urim and Thummin" or some Uma Thurman will do, and a lot of pathological lying and chutzpah. Mix with authority and serve as "The word of God".

  • @IExposeMormonism Specifically, I'd like to know how "Reformed Egyptian" translates into Elizabethan English, and why we shouldn't believe that it's just an attempt to make it sound like the King James version of the Bible.

  • This is no different than any other LDS apologetics. It's a lofty, farfetched, barely remotely possible explanation. To a non-believer, it's an absurdity. To a thinking believer, it's enough to assuage their cognitive dissonance.

The idea that the so called "American Indians" were descendants of the lost tribes of Israel was not unique to the Mormons in the 1800s. However, no one outside the Church even considers it a possibility now. If you eliminate the BOM, there's not ONE piece of evidence.

  • um indian tribes usually dont marry or SHARE DNA. they stay close nit. and the people tested those untainted indian tribes and found NO ISRAEL TRACES

  • mormons always have to say, this is not the case. THATS PROBABLY A GOOD SIGN IT IS, if your have to try and prove your lies

  • I think that this theory is such a stretch, you are in peril of it flinging back and hitting you in the eye.

It is also hard to understand. DNA testing has shown that the native Americans originated from Mongolia/Syberia, and not the Middle East. Are you saying that Mongol migrants somehow racially cleansed the DNA of native Americans by interbreeding?

  • mormons are stupid.

  • If Science is so deficient in examining dna I think it's time for Mormon Scientists (not to use an oxymormon) to step up and search for their claims. Rather than start with something small like dna, start with something big, a Roman Breast Plate from Cumorah, a Curloom, that sort of thing. Could you explain how English, which began in c300AD is a component of Reformed Egyptian writing and speech? There are many hundreds of years between any Egyptian and English and the two never mingled

  • Mormon!

  • @hammerogod Incredible!!!!!
