This experiment is based on acid-base reactions. In the laboratory when we want to know the pH of a solution, we have to put it in contact with a pH indicator. The change of color of the indicator shows us the acidity of the unknown pH solution. Thanks to indicator we can discover if our solution is an acid or a base.
But, at home what can we do to identify acids and bases? Can we found natural pH indicators? And even more curious, are there edible pH indicators? In this experiment you will discover these curiosities and you will be able to experiment with them!
Pep Anton Vieta (Chemistry, University of Girona) suggest us this experiment.

We are going to repeat this experiment, and other ones from our project "scientists in the kitchen", in the next Researcher's Night in Girona (September 25th, 2009).
