I have a question, how can the outsiders take place in 1966 when the greaser era died out in 63.Also I wondered why therare no hippie late 60's refereences in this film. I personally lov ehow it is 50's greasy. But other films that protray 1966 a hippie year. So why is it greasy here.
I believe you are right in that I do remember as I was growing up in the 60s and 70s the hippie and beatnick movement was prevalent. However I also recall a few boys I knew in junior high in the 70s were what we called "low riders" which were basically the same as these greasers and clashed with surfers which were basically hippies that surfed here in CA. Thankfully we all grew up and lived to tell about how stupid we were. So embarassing!
It is the late 1960's. I guess SE hinton started to talk of hipies in the 1971 novel that was the this is now.But were there som greasers or greasy thugs in the late 60's.
