In questions at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on the U.S. and G-20: Remaking the International Economic Architecture, Senator Dick Lugar discussed with Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner that those responsible for requesting appropriations for the six international development banks need to do so in a timely manner, and that these requests be preceded by sufficient information to keep the committee up to date and improve inter-governmental relations in this area. Furthermore, he asked whether it is still necessary to have more international development banks if we are entering into a new era of international finance in which the geographical situation makes less sense to have these banks, how other nations view this issue, and what is the prognosis for the maintenance of all of these institutions.
